In November 2009 Goldman Sachs launched its 10,000 Small Business Programme. The initiative aims to provide 10,000 small businesses with a broad range of business help. These include business, marketing, broader management education; tailored mentoring and philanthropic support.

Aston University is one of Goldman Sach’s delivery partners.  Aston invited Wavelength along to deliver a brand strategy session to an earlier cohort’s Alumina.  20 businesses from a range of sectors including aerospace, construction, sound engineering, construction and pharmaceuticals attended the session which focused on the what, why and how of branding.

Here’s what some of the participants had to say:

  • “Great session.  Excellent speaker.”
  • “Excellent.  I have several ideas to implement.  Thank you.”
  • “More time!”
  • “Good mix of help from the front.  Practical and peer leaning.”
  • “An excellent workshop!  Really useful information and much ‘food for thought’.”  “Needed a whole day.  Great to have an interactive workshop. Becomes more realistic.”
  • “Great presenter and engaging.”
  • “Excellent overview.  Lots of ideas and thoughts to take back and review within the business.”
  • “Very insightful.  Some great advice!”
  • “Different to what I was expecting.  Made me think.”
  • “Brilliant.  Very thought provoking and rewarding session.”
  • “Great day.  Lots to think about for our new website.  Our story!”

Darren Coleman, who led the session outlines:

“It’s quite common for SME’s to either think a brand is a logo or branding is only for large corporations.  Unfortunately, both are simply not true.  You only need to look at once small brands like Innocent to see how brand lies at the heart of growth and success. It was a real pleasure to deliver the session.  It’s very gratifying when busy business owners take time out of their schedules to attend our sessions.  I’d like to think quite a few people in the room have a deeper understanding of brand than they did before.”
